Samphire Neuroscience

nov 2021 - feb 2022

Project Summary

I joined the Samphire Neuroscience team as their founding UX/UI designer. The Samphire team is working on providing a wearable neurotechnology solution, a headband, for women’s health needs. 🌱 I was solely responsible for the design of their branding and the initial designs of their mobile application which they used for their clinical trial.

I began by aligning with the founders on the essential features they wanted for this initial app test run and what we needed in place for the clinical trial to succeed.

From there, I mapped out the user journey and detailed user flows. I reviewed other best practices in the health space, studied apps with similar patterns and ran a competitive analysis. Then I started on low-fidelity sketches and translated them into wireframes in Figma.

Since the founders weren’t sure about their initial branding, I iterated on the brand, testing color palettes and approaches. The result was branding suited to be welcoming and warm, lifting the mood, while still being appropriate for a medical device.

Within three months, I designed the full clinical-trial app experience and worked closely with their developer on handoff and testing to ensure it was ready for the trial.

I’m proud to have laid the foundation for Samphire’s brand and first app used in their clinical trial. Today the product has evolved into Nettle™, a CE-marked Class IIa medical device in the UK & EU, and the company has raised $5M seed to scale distribution and clinical research.
